LOW-STOREY LIVING ON THE RISE

Bungalows are on the brink of a comeback, according to housebuilder Miller Homes, which plans to bring over 26 bungalows to the West Midlands over the next 12-months.

Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, explains how the housebuilder plans to showcase the benefits of bungalow living:

“Our latest selection of bungalows adds to the nationwide ‘bungalow renaissance’. As a housebuilder, we’re trying to change people’s perception towards low-storey living by creating stylish, yet spacious bungalows that appeal to a range of audiences.

Across the West Midlands, the housebuilder has increased the number of bungalows in the pipeline, in a bid to meet growing demand.

The appetite for bungalows in the UK has increased in the last two years. A YouGov survey, conducted in 2019, reported there was a continued increase from over 65s, with 60 per cent - 7.2million people – suggesting they would consider moving to a bungalow.

And according to Rightmove*, Staffordshire has the most bungalows for sale in comparison to its West Midlands neighbours at 727, including Shropshire (430), Worcestershire (375), Warwickshire (299) and Herefordshire (227).

Though still synonymous with retirees, the bungalow resurgence has uncovered new found interest from the younger generation because of changing attitudes towards architecture. With the government backed Help to Buy scheme also available on all homes under £600,000, the Fairfield two-bedroom bungalow offers an affordable route into home ownership without compromising on space, offering a total of 975 square foot, with two double bedrooms and a generous 19ft living/dining area.

Miller Homes currently has two-bedroom bungalows available at its Regency Fields development in Solihull, at Kings Meadow in Bidford-on-Avon and will be coming soon to Miller Homes’ newest Warwickshire development, Montgomery Grange in Hampton Magna.

Parsons adds:

“The benefits of bungalow-living give homeowners the chance to experience spacious, open-plan designs, flexible spaces for home working, typically larger outdoor space and the ability to easily maintain the property. Bungalows of the 21st Century are changing, and we’re thrilled to be part of this new conversation, offering more choice alongside our two and three-storey homes.

“No longer are bungalows restricted to retirement villages, they are also an attractive prospect for first time buyers looking for an affordable first step on the property ladder without compromising on style or space.”

2020 is the 85th anniversary of Miller Homes, and in 2019, it was awarded a five-star rating once again as part of the National Home Builders Federation’s New Home Customer Satisfaction Survey.
